Broadmoor Place

Service Description

Sundays, August 18th & 25th 1-3pm Have you wanted to learn to use a mini wheel and then fire your finished pieces in a microwave? In this two session workshop we'll dive deep into the world of miniature wheel throwing using inexpensive mini pottery wheels suitable for in home and portable clay work. We will also explore surface decoration and the ins and outs of firing Raku pottery in a designated microwave and go over the safety concerns and precautions of trying something like this at home. Participants unfamiliar with Raku will learn about the history and technical side of this ancient Japanese art form and experience it first hand with a modern mini microwave twist! Wheel throwing and basic centering ability is required, but you need not be an advanced wheel thrower to participate. All skill levels welcome! Cost of class includes all materials and firing costs, and unlimited bisque firing of mini wheel pieces made during the week of the workshop. Space is limited to 4 adults, unless you can provide your own mini wheel. E-mail claire@clairewillispottery.com if class is listed as full but you can bring your own wheel to find out if the session is full.
